Exploring First Futures
In today’s world, many see the future as a straight line—but it’s more like a living, evolving organism, shaped by every choice we make. There isn’t just one future; there are infinite possible futures.
First Futures is a free, 4-hour virtual workshop designed to democratise futures design and make it accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, this session will guide you through the tools and techniques needed to imagine and shape alternative futures. Delivered via FigJam, it includes six core exercises that will challenge you to explore possibilities, critique ideas, design speculative products and services, and create future artefacts that disrupt the status quo.
At StudioCone, we believe futures design should be accessible to all—not just experts. That’s why this workshop is free. Together, let’s design conscious and equitable futures.

Bringing First Futures to Life
To celebrate the launch of our free workshop, we created a series of launch visuals that capture our playful approach to futures design. Inspired by retro futurism, we designed a set of digital assets that blend nostalgia with speculation, echoing our belief that the past, present, and future are always in conversation.
At the heart of our launch is our animated hero visual: a bold First Futures type treatment set within an immersive environment, complete with a UFO and portal, setting the stage for exploration. From there, we took things further, designing and building a custom floppy disk and the Coneintosh, a reimagined cone branded Macintosh 128K that feels like it was plucked from an alternate timeline. Crafted in Blender, these objects merge familiar forms with speculative elements, reinforcing the idea that futures are something we can craft, remix, and reimagine.
To bring everything to life, we animated the assets and designed a layered soundscape, fully immersing audiences in the world of First Futures. The result is a launch that feels tactile, playful, and deeply aligned with our mission to make futures design more engaging, accessible, and open to all.
